TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) _ Craig Thames scored 22 points, including four as Toledo scored 11 of the game’s final 12 points, as the Rockets beat Western Michigan 82-70 Saturday night.
Casey Shaw scored 14 points, Scoop Williams had 13 and Kevin Baker and Bobby Krahulik each scored 10 for Toledo, 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
Jason Black had 22 points, Joel Burns 15, Matt Van Abbema 12 and Ben Handlogten 10 for Western, 8-8 and 3-5.
Toledo led 40-33 at the half, but Western twice cut the lead to two points. A bucket by Black with 3:28 narrowed the margin to 71-69.
But the Rockets went on an 11-1 run to the buzzer. Five players scored for Toledo, which hit 7-of-10 free throws down the stretch.
Williams started the spurt with a free throw, with Baker adding two more foul shots to up the lead to 74-69 with 2:17 left. Thames then hit a free throw and Shaw a jumper to make it 77-69 with 39 seconds remaining.
Western hit 5-of-8 3-point field goals, with Black making 4-of-7 and Burns hitting his only attempt.
Krahulik had 10 assists to match his point total.
