UPCOMING TODAY:

WISCONSIN BUDGET-DRINKING WATER

MADISON, Wis. _ The Legislature’s budget-writing committee is set to consider Gov. Tony Evers’ proposal to authorize more borrowing for clean water projects. Evers wants to increase the clean water program’s borrowing authority by $13.5 million and the safe drinking water loan program’s borrowing authority by $3.6 million over the biennium. By Scott Bauer. SENT: 130 words. Will be updated.

TRADE WAR

BISMARCK, N.D. _ Jamie Beyer says she knew way back in 2017, when President Donald Trump first started talking about tariffs, that the soybeans her family grows in Minnesota and South Dakota were likely to become a weapon. But these are days of “a little bit of panic” among farmers, she said, as they reel from prices that plunged this week to a 10-year low. “We’ve been brought into this deal, a sacrificial lamb, when it isn’t about our product and it isn’t about our trade market,” Beyer said. “It’s extremely hard to take.” One economist said the farm sector may face its greatest downturn since the late 1980s, with widespread bankruptcies and consolidation. By Blake Nicholson. UPCOMING: 500 words.

BREWERS-PHILLIES

PHILADELPHIA _ Brandon Woodruff (5-1, 4.25 ERA) goes for Milwaukee and Jerad Eickhoff (2-1, 1.50) starts for Philadelphia as the Brewers take on the Phillies. By Rob Maaddi. UPCOMING: 700 words, photos. Game time 7:05 p.m CT.
