Eyes on Brownsville: Texas Monthly LIVE to spotlight city

May 4, 2019

Half-price tickets are available now for a mixed-media spectacle celebrating Brownsville, produced by the magazine Texas Monthly, which is read across the state and beyond.

The publication last year launched Texas Monthly LIVE, described as a “page to the stage” affair featuring storytellers telling stories about selected Texas communities.

This year Brownsville made the cut alongside Austin, Houston and San Antonio. At the Texas Southmost College Performing Arts Center on July 9, the story of Brownsville will be told through narration, music and video during a 90-minute presentation featuring performances curated by the magazine’s editors.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. The event will be hosted by David Courtney, a Temple native who writes Texas Monthly’s popular “The Texanist” advice column. Among the Texas Monthly LIVE storytellers is author and Brownsville native Oscar Cásares.

Texas Monthly describes the experience as an exploration of the “sights, sounds and feelings of Texas.” Tickets for the Brownsville show are $20 through May 13, then they go up to $25.
