Eversource appeals Northern Pass case to state Supreme court

August 10, 2018

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Eversource has appealed the rejection of its Northern Pass transmission line proposal to the New Hampshire Supreme Court.

The company announced Friday that it had filed an appeal, arguing among other things that the state’s Site Evaluation Committee failed to fully deliberate the case, misapplied its own rules, and put an undue burden on the company.

In March, the committee issued a written ruling denying the power project over concerns it would harm tourism and property values. The ruling prompted Massachusetts to abandon its plans to get clean energy from the $1.6 billion Northern Pass project, which calls for constructing a 192-mile transmission line to bring 1,090 megawatts of hydropower from Canada to New England.

The committee upheld its decision in May prompting the court challenge.
