OXFORD, Miss. (AP) _ Mississippi forward Rahim Lockhart has been charged with shoplifting after allegedly stealing a cassette tape at a record store, the university's campus newspaper reported Thursday.

Lockhart, a sophomore who is averaging 8.1 points per game, was taken to the Oxford Jail and released on his own recognizance late Thursday, according to the Daily Mississippian.

Lockhart is coming off two of his best performances since arriving in Oxford.

The 6-foot-8 forward had a career-high 21 points in the Rebels' 78-60 win over Alabama on Jan. 7 and a career-high 12 rebounds for Ole Miss in Wednesday's 81-68 victory over Mississippi State.

A police report stated that an employee at the Sound Shop in Oxford observed Lockhart with a cassette tape, which was later noticed missing, the Daily Mississippian reported.

Lockhart served a one-game suspension against Vanderbilt on Jan. 2 for unspecified reasons.

Ole Miss athletic officials were unavailable for comment late Thursday.
