Weather cancels procession, salute still on
Heavy rains have cancelled some Memorial Day programs but planned military salutes and cemetery visits will go on as scheduled in Rochester.
The American Legion Post 92, in Rochester, posted on its Facebook page earlier this morning that the Memorial Day Parade/Procession and the Memorial Day Program at Soldiers Field have been canceled.
“We will still have a military salute honoring the dead at Soldiers Field at 10:30am. This will include a prayer, laying of a wreath, 3 volleys from Marine Corps League Thor Detachment #606 Honor Guard, and Taps,” the post read. “Also, the VFW, Legion, and Detachment #606, will still do military salutes honoring the dead at the Center Street Bridge at 12:00pm, and at the respective cemeteries they were assigned.”
In Kenyon, the parade today was canceled and the memorial program was moved indoors to the VFW, located on the corner of Second Street and Forest Street. The program starts at 10:30 a.m.
