Stuart Pimsler Dance developing ‘Family Album’ in Rochester schools

The professional Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater, from the Twin Cities, is going back to school.

The dance company is spending two weeks at Rochester’s Jefferson School this month, and then two weeks at Bamber Valley School in December, as part of its “Family Albums/Reaching Across Rochester” project.

Stuart Pimsler dancers will explore with students their family stories, histories and legacy, and assist the students in developing a performance blending movement, music, video and spoken word.

Public performances of “Family Album” with students performing alongside professional dancers, will be given at 2 p.m. Friday at Jefferson School, 1201 10th Ave. NE, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at Bamber Valley School, 2001 Bamber Valley Road SW. Admission is free.

Stuart Pimsler Dance was founded in 1979 in New York and has been based since 2000 in Minneapolis. The company has performed around the world, including in China, Mexico, Russia and Israel.
