SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) _ A Chatham County grand jury has decided there was not enough evidence for criminal charges against Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Wayne Simmons, who was accused of sexual assault by an 18-year-old woman last spring.

``We got the result expected. Wayne looks forward to continuing his life without this matter hanging over his head,'' defense lawyer Alex L. Zipperer said after Wednesday's grand jury decision.

The Hilton Head Island, S.C., woman claimed Simmons, a first-round draft choice by the Green Bay Packers out of Clemson in 1993, assaulted her in a stairwell at a Savannah nightclub May 31, hours after she graduated from Hilton Head High School in a ceremony that included retirement of Simmons' high school football jersey.
