September 30, 2018

The City of Aiken, the Greater Aiken Integrated Trails Foundation and the Aiken Land Conservancy will celebrate Carolina Bay Nature Preserve improvements Oct. 3.

Safety lighting has been installed at the nature preserve – located along Price Avenue S.E., near the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center – courtesy of City Electric Supply.

Wednesday’s get-together at Carolina Bay will include a brief presentation at the observation deck, according to information from the city.

“We invite all to join us in walking the nature trails after the event and experience the scenery Carolina Bay has to offer,” a related press release reads.

The event begins 10 a.m. and is free to attend.

Carolina Bay is a fully protected and restored wetland area off Whiskey Road. Ducks, geese, hawks, frogs, turtles, salamanders, raccoons and squirrels are commonly observed at the preserve, according to city information.

Carolina Bay is open from sunrise to sunset.
