Man pleads to lesser charge in Easter morning slaying
A Fort Wayne man charged with murder in the shooting death of Javon Burnett, 26, on Easter morning pleaded guilty Thursday to a lesser charge.
Joshua Smiley, 21, pleaded guilty in Allen Superior Court to assisting a criminal, and a plea agreement calls for him to spend three years in prison. The murder charge and a firearm enhancement will be dismissed when he is sentenced later this month, according to the agreement.
Smiley and Tyrion McNair, 25, are charged in connection with the death of Burnett, who was found dead, with multiple gunshot wounds, between two buildings at The Summit at Ridgewood Apartments around 10 a.m. on April 1.
McNair is charged with murder, and his trial is scheduled to start Monday.
