QB Martinez starting for Huskers; Domann not on trip; other pregame observations
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Adrian Martinez is back.
Nebraska’s freshman quarterback is starting here against Michigan after missing one week with a right knee injury.
Martinez stayed loose on the exercise bike on the visiting sideline while NU’s captains were at midfield for the coin toss and then trotted onto the field with the first-team offense.
Martinez worked with starting center Cole Conrad during early warm-ups and chatted with two of the game’s officiating crew in the hour before kickoff Saturday.
Martinez, of course, also warmed up last week but did not play against Troy due to a right knee injury suffered Week 1 against Colorado.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is wearing the same brace he did during last week at Memorial Stadium.
*** Nebraska used the extra room on the Big Ten’s newly approved 74-man travel roster. Not surprisingly, the Huskers used every spot.
One player who did not make the trip is sophomore safety JoJo Domann. The defensive back did not play last week against Troy and did not appear to be in pads for practice this week.
*** A couple of notables who did not make the travel roster: OLB Breon Dixon and RB Jaylin Bradley, who are among the players with a redshirt year still available to them.
*** The Huskers have 10 defensive linemen on the trip. That includes the nine who have seen regular playing time through the first two games and also Utah graduate transfer Vaha Vainuku.
*** Senior RB Mikale Wilbon was not on the original list provided by NU officials, but he did apparently make the trip in place of Dixon.
*** A sampling of the walk-ons who made the trip: CB Ethan Cox, S Eli Sullivan, WR Kade Warner and WR Todd Honas.
