Greenwich Old-Timers honor sports stars

Out there… The Greenwich Old Timers will dish up accolades as it hosts its 58th Annual Sports Awards Dinner on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. Honorees will include former New York Giants linebacker Harry Carson and MLB pitcher and NY Mets analyst Nelson Figueroa, along with local stars Laurie Downs, Nancy Leamy and Milton “Skip” Waddell. Scene… The Sip & Shop Girls’ Night Out Boutique will hold court at the Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, The event, part of the Experience Greenwich Week of in-store promotions and restaurant specials, will feature over 30 local and independent businesses showcasing their products and services. The fun will include wine and food tastings, home décor, men’s and women’s fashions, jewelry, accessories and beauty products. Businesses owned or represented by local moms will set up shop, including: HabitatGreenwich, In2Design, Millianna, Monogram Mary, Paper & Stitch, Therese Custom Designs, Too Sparrows, Turq Sport, Walker & Wade, and Wick & Laz. Tastings will be served up by Putnam & Vine of Greenwich and the soon-to-open COBS Bread in Riverside. A portion of sales will be donated to Swim Across America Fairfield County to benefit the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, which is researching breakthrough cancer gene therapies. Admission is free. Out there… The fifth annual Women Leading the Way to Wellness will honor local women for their exceptional impact in the fight against cancer with an event at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa. It will feature networking and a luncheon as well as a silent auction. Lucinda Cross, author and CEO of Activate Worldwide, will give the keynote address. The wellness speaker will be Kelly Jamieson Thomas, who has a doctorate in oncology. The event will feature networking, a luncheon and a silent auction. Dr. Evelyn Cusack Landesman, a cardiologist at Stamford Hospital; Heidy Malin, manager of radiation oncology at Greenwich Hospital; and Shantana Maye, founder of Sister Girl Foundation, will be honored for leading the way to wellness in the community.
