Donald Trump takes on Harry Reid: ‘He led through lies and deception’
President Trump blasted former Sen. Harry Reid on Monday after the former Democratic leader ripped him in a new interview.
“Former Senator Harry Reid (he got thrown out) is working hard to put a good spin on his failed career,” the president tweeted. “He led through lies and deception, only to be replaced by another beauty, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer. Some things just never change!”
Mr. Reid said Mr. Trump is entirely wrong for the country, according to an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash that aired on Monday.
“I just have trouble accepting him as a person and so frankly I don’t see anything he’s doing right,” he said.
Mr. Reid did not run for re-election in 2016 after serving 30 years in the Senate. He was diagnosed in 2018 with pancreatic cancer, which has since gone into remission.
During his time as the Majority Leader, Mr. Reid was as equally critical of former President George W. Bush as he is of Mr. Trump.
The former senator acknowledged his past criticism of Mr. Bush, but said those differences were “strictly political.”
“In hindsight, I wish everyday for a George Bush again. He and I had our differences, but no one questioned his patriotism,” he said.
Mr. Reid encouraged the idea of possibly impeaching the president and doubted that Democrats would face political blowback.
