Gary L. Redfern

CUBA CITY -- Gary L. “Skip” Redfern went to eternal rest on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018.

He was born March 1, 1946, in Galena, Illinois, to Eldren “Danny” and Vera Heim Redfern. He attended New Diggings Elementary and graduated from Benton High School in 1964. After graduation he attended Madison Barber School. He served his country from 1966 to 1968 at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas, achieving the rank of E-5. He then returned to Cuba City and continued his barber profession, becoming a master barber and opened Skip’s Barber Shop in 1970. In 1974 he became an American Family Insurance agent in Lancaster and was promoted to district manager in 1977, moving to Watertown. He retired from American Family Agency in Appleton. Since April of 2015 he has resided at Epione Pavilion Home in Cuba City in declining health.

He was preceded in death by his father “Danny” Redfern, stepfather Morris Harris and his mother Vera Redfern Harris.

He is survived by three sons, Sean of Watertown, Chad of Washington state and Ryan (Wendi) of Jackson. Also surviving are six grandsons: Mack and Connor of Watertown, Parker, Alec, Bennett and Jack of Jackson; his former wife, Vicki Redfern of Watertown; his sister, Sandy (John) Aurit of Galena, Illinois, and their children Todd, Dan and Jodi; and his aunt Viola Roling of Benton, as well as 10 great-nieces, one great-nephew and numerous cousins.

Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf and tailgating at Badger, Brewer and Packer games. He never turned down a card game and he loved the Northwoods, where he enjoyed snowmobiling for many years.

Per Gary’s request there will be no visitation or funeral services. Private family services will be held. The Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gary’s name.
