Flooding continues on St. Joseph above Newville, below Montpelier

Moderate flooding continues on the St. Joseph River above Newville, Indiana, and below Montpelier, Ohio, the National Weather Service said today.

At 9 a.m. Friday the weather service said the St. Joseph below Montpelier was at 14.8 feet and rising; flood stage is 12 feet. The river is expected to crest at 15 feet at 2 a.m. Saturday.

Several roads are closed at the crest height, including County Road 10 at County Road K, the weather service said. It said the crest compared to a crest in March 2009.

At 10 a.m. Friday the weather service said the St. Joseph above Newville was at 14.5 feet and rising; flood stage is 12 feet. The river is expected to crest at 14.8 feet at 2 a.m. Sunday.

County Road 42 and agriculture and lowlands near the river are flooded at that height, the weather service said. It said the crest compared to a crest in April 2013.
