Winless Tennessee State visits Herd women Saturday at the Cam
HUNTINGTON - Tennessee State University (0-9) visits Marshall University (4-5) for a 2 p.m. Saturday women’s basketball game in Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall has won three of its last four games, including an 86-64 defeat of Cleveland State University on Dec. 8, and the Thundering Herd has won its last four home games.
Senior guard Taylor Porter had 22 points and six 3-point field goals against Cleveland State and was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week. Senior guard Shayna Gore pitched in 20 points and sophomore guard Kristen Mayo delivered eight assists and had no turnovers. Ashley Saintigene, a 6-foot-2 junior, scored 11 in her first start this season.
Gore, a 5-foot-8 senior guard, leads the Herd with 18.0 points per game. Gore has 1,601 career points and needs eight to pass Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (2002-06) for third all-time at Marshall. Mayo (5-5) and Porter (5-8) average double-figure points at 10.7 and 10.0 respectively.
Tennessee State comes off back-to-back losses against South Alabama (8-0) and No. 4 Louisville (10-0).
The TSU Tigers are an Ohio Valley Conference team from Nashville, Tennessee, led by 5-11 sophomore Taylor Roberts with 15.1 points a game while 6-foot senior Tia Wooten averages 12.9. Terrysha Banner (5-6 freshman) scores 6.8 a game and 5-10 sophomore Jaden Wrightsell pulls down 7.4 rebounds.As a team Tennessee State averages 57.9 points on 32.0 percent shooting.
