YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) _ Marcus Culbreth scored 21 points and added 16 rebounds to lead Youngstown State over Eastern Illinois 74-65 Monday night in the Mid-Continent Conference.
Anthony Hunt added 17 points, as the Penguins came from behind in the second half to improve to 12-12, 7-9 in the conference.
Eastern Illinois (10-12, 7-7) made only 12 of their 33 shots in the second half, in contrast to the Panthers’ hot hand at the start. They went ahead 8-0 less than two minutes into the game and made six of their first seven 3-pointers while building a 26-11 lead with 11:06 to go in the half. Eastern Illinois led 35-29 at halftime.
Early in the second half, the Penguins began taking advantage of Culbreth’s dominance down low. Culbreth’s jumper from the left base line with 14:28 left made it 43-43.
Leroy King’s free throw with 11:50 left put Youngstown State ahead 46-45, and the Penguins led the rest of the way.
Andre Rodriguez scored 18 points to top Eastern Illinois. All of his 11 shots were 3-point attempts, and he made six. Rick Kaye scored 16 points.
