DA: Gloucester house fire intentionally set by victim
GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Investigators say a fire in a Gloucester home last week that took the life of the resident was intentionally set by the victim and is an apparent suicide.
The Essex district attorney’s office says the blaze that claimed the life of 53-year-old Alan Feener was reported at about 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 11.
Once inside the burning structure, firefighters found Feener already dead near the top of the stairs.
Fire investigators determined that the blaze began in a second-floor bedroom.
The medical examiner hasn’t ruled on Feener’s cause and manner of death, but the investigation suggests Feener took his own life.
