ARETHA FRANKLIN: RED ON TUESDAY, BLUE ON WEDNESDAY
DETROIT (AP) — Aretha Franklin had a new outfit for the second day of her public viewing at Detroit’s Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Yesterday, Franklin was dressed in light blue and matching shoes. She was dressed in red on Tuesday. Hundreds of mourners lined up for a second day to pay their respects. Franklin died of pancreatic cancer on Aug. 16. Her funeral is tomorrow.

JUDGE: COME UP WITH A PLAN FOR ARETHA FRANKLIN’S BIRTHPLACE BY OCTOBER
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A judge says the people who want to preserve Aretha Franklin’s birthplace in Memphis, Tennessee, have until Oct. 16 to come up with a plan. The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports Shelby County Environmental Court Judge Patrick Dandridge says the city of Memphis, the current homeowner and the receiver in charge of overseeing the property need to decide the building’s future. It’s been vacant for years and was in danger of being torn down. Franklin’s family moved when she was two years old.
KANYE WEST APOLOGIZES FOR SLAVERY COMMENT
CHICAGO (AP) — Kanye West offered an apology for his remark that suggested slavery was a choice. West tells WGCI-FM in Chicago he’s “sorry for the one-two effect” of wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and making the slave comment when he visited TMZ offices in May. He says he could have presented his thoughts in a calmer way but he was “ramped up.” West also addressed Jimmy Kimmel’s recent question that left him speechless, about why West feels President Donald Trump cares about black people. West says he was taking his time answering and didn’t appreciate the show cutting to a commercial. He says he believes Trump cares about how black people feel about him.
ED SHEERAN WILL APPEAR IN UPCOMING FILM
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It’s not much of a stretch for Ed Sheeran as he takes on his first full acting role. He plays himself. Sheeran will appear in a film directed by Danny Boyle that will come out in September of 2019. The film is about a singer-songwriter who wakes up and realizes he’s the only person in the world who remembers The Beatles. Sheeran discovers him and takes him on tour. Sheeran filmed his part between concerts while touring. He says he’d love to do a movie musical like the film “Once,” but he doesn’t really want to be an actor. As Sheeran puts it, “I can’t see myself playing an Avenger.”

MARTIN LUTHER KING’S DAUGHTER SAYS CARDI B HAS APOLOGIZED
ATLANTA (AP) — The daughter of Martin Luther King Junior has thanked Cardi B for reaching out to her after Cardi B appeared in a skit as King’s wife. Bernice King tweets Cardi B apologized for the skit that aired on TMZ and she looked forward to talking to her. Cardi B came under fire for appearing as Coretta Scott King in a two-minute parody called “The Real Housewives of Civil Rights” that pits her against Malcolm X’s wife, Betty Shabazz.
TAYLOR HANSON PREPARES FOR SIXTH CHILD
UNDATED (AP) — Taylor Hanson of Hanson is about to be a dad again. Hanson writes on Instagram, “What’s better than being a dad of five? Perhaps being a dad of six. Baby Hanson coming in December and we are over the moon.” Hanson and his wife, Natalie, have three sons and two daughters.
MEEK MILL DONATES BACKPACKS TO PHILADELPHIA STUDENTS
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Meek Mill came back to his old school yesterday to hand out backpacks and school supplies. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Mill brought 6,000 Puma backpacks to students at Blaine Elementary School in Philadelphia -- one for each student and the rest for other Philadelphia students in need. Mill posed for pictures and gave fist bumps to students. Mill says he was up all night in the studio and may seem “a little rustled, but...it’s out of love for the people in my city.”
NICK JONAS WILL BE PART OF “UGLYDOLLS”
BURBANK, Calif. (AP) — Nick Jonas will join the cast of the animated film “Uglydolls,” based on the line of plush toys. Jonas will contribute a song to the movie as well. Kelly Clarkson and Pitbull have roles in the film too. “Uglydolls” will be in theaters next year.
