DENVER (AP) _ SM Energy Co. (SM) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $17.2 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Denver-based company said it had profit of 15 cents.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 6 cents per share.
The independent oil and gas company posted revenue of $443.9 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $373.8 million.
SM Energy shares have climbed 22 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $26.96, a rise of 57 percent in the last 12 months.
