Visitors, residents join fun at Lucky Number 13 Country Jam in Florence
FLORENCE, S.C. – Country tunes filled downtown Florence on Friday evening as locals and visitors attended the Lucky Number 13 Country Jam.
The family-oriented event welcomed pitchers from the World Horseshoe Tournament which is taking place at the Florence Center. Charles Savoy and Dee Dee Savoy are visiting from Louisiana. They said their home state is known for its constant festivals.
“I like to come and see the festivals in other areas,” Charles said. “We are loving our time here so far.”
Charles and Dee Dee said they like to try new restaurants when they travel, and the local cuisine has been delicious.
Some horseshoe pitchers decided to try their hand at pitching cornhole bags during the cornhole tournament sponsored by Local Motive Brewery.
“If it’s competition, we’re in,” said Brian Fisher, a horseshoe tournament pitcher from Ohio.
Fisher said the Florence community has been polite and welcoming.
Early in the evening, the Barry Brown Band took center stage. The band played a combination of country and Southern rock music.
In addition to live music, there were inflatables and face painting for kids. Attendees also lined up to spin a prize wheel and get a chance to win cash in the Lucky 13 Cash Money Grab Machine. Participants put on goggles, got in the machine and grabbed dollar bills swirling inside.
Shyann Palmer claimed $1 during the 20-second time limit. She said the Money Grab Machine was fun but more difficult than it looked.
“You think you can catch it, but it goes really fast,” Shyann said.
Participants paid $2 to spin the prize wheel, and proceeds from the activity will go to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.
Breana James, a native of Florence, said it is exciting to see large numbers of people downtown. James said she likes to come to downtown events to get out of the house for a bit, spend time with family and meet new people.
“I’m glad it’s growing,” James said about downtown Florence. “There’s more to do now.”
The Lucky 13 Country Jam was a presentation of the Florence Downtown Development Corporation and was sponsored in part by the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau and Raines Hospitality.
