Lightning blamed in house fire that displaces 1
LONGMEADOW, Mass. (AP) — Fire officials believe lightning is to blame for a house fire near Springfield that left one resident displaced.
The Republican newspaper reports that firefighters responded to a blaze at a Longmeadow home Thursday afternoon after heavy thunderstorms swept through the area.
No one was home and no injuries were reported. The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes and caused an estimated $70,000 in damage.
Most of the damage was to the attic but officials say there was smoke and water damage throughout the house.
The state fire marshal’s office will help investigate the official cause of the fire.
