Former Child Star Sues Soft Drink Maker
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) _ Former child star Shirley Temple Black has filed a lawsuit against companies she contends misappropriated her name for commercial purposes in sales of ″Shirley Temple Soda Pop.″
The lawsuit against Shirley’s Temple Inc., the soft drink maker, and Walker International Specialty Foods, both of nearby Santa Rosa, was filed recently in San Mateo County Superior Court.
Black’s attorney has since written to request that production of the drink halt, but has been told that would result in financial ruin for the company.
Shirley’s Temple Inc. attorney, Donal Lewin, said his client has risked everything he owns to bring the drink to the market and hasn’t used Black’s image to promote the product or implied she was involved.
Lewin also said similar soft drinks have been sold worldwide for years. A hearing on the court action is set for Nov. 10.
