Lawyer: Fall River woman acted in self-defense in stabbing
FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A lawyer for a Fall River woman charged with fatally stabbing a man who had argued with her daughter over a $50 debt said in court that his client acted in self-defense.
Adrienne Brown is charged with murder in the May 30 death of 53-year-old Brian Jones.
The 37-year-old Brown pleaded not guilty Friday at her Superior Court arraignment and was held on $250,000 bail.
The Herald News reports that Brown’s attorney told the judge that his client has a “very triable self-defense case.”
The defense attorney said Jones threatened Brown’s daughter then confronted Brown while holding a beer bottle.
Prosecutors disputed that, noting that all but one witness said Jones was unarmed and did not threaten Brown.
Brown had been held on $500,000 bail after her district court arraignment.
