L-Cats snaps Lodi’s 21-game conference winning streak
LODI — Sophomore quarterback Adam Moen rushed 23 times for 125 yards and a pair of second half touchdowns as Lake Mills snapped defending Division 4 state champion Lodi’s 21-game winning streak in the Capitol North with a 25-14 road win on Friday.
Lake Mills (6-2, 3-1 Capitol North) took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when Moen threw a 33-yard TD pass to Matt Johnson.
Lodi (7-1, 3-1) took a 7-6 lead in the second quarter when junior quarterback Zach Potter threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end Kade Parsons and Austin Soehle made the extra point.
But the L-Cats came up with four interceptions on the night, and one of them set Lake Mills up to take the lead for good. Luke Pierce scored from 5 yards out two plays after an interception and the L-Cats took a 12-7 lead into halftime.
Moen scored from 4 yards out in the third quarter and busted off an 80-yard TD run in the fourth to put Lake Mills up 25-7.
In addition to his rushing totals, Moen completed 10-of-22 passes for 146 yards with one score and two interceptions.
Parsons caught his second touchdown pass of the night from 25 yards out to cap the scoring. He caught three passes for 84 yards.
The win makes Lake Mills playoff eligible for a fourth consecutive season and drops Lodi into a tie for second place in the conference. Lakeside Lutheran clinched a share of the league title with Lodi’s loss and can win the conference crown outright with a win at Lodi next Friday.
Lake Mills hosts Luther Prep to close out the regular season next Friday.
