Minnesota 82, Charleston Southern 67

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Sam Jacobson had 22 points and Minnesota took control with a 17-0 run in beating Charleston Southern 82-67 Tuesday night.

Hot outside shooting gave Charleston Southern (0-2) the upper hand much of the first half. A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Errol McPherson gave the Buccaneers a 42-36 halftime lead, their biggest of the game.

Minnesota’s inside game, ineffective early on, came to life during the second-half spurt, with John Thomas and Trevor Winter combining for seven points.

In the first half, the Bucs shot 52 percent, and made 8-of-13 from 3-point range. But they managed just 8-of-26 shooting after the break.

The Gophers struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 36 percent before taking command.

Quincy Lewis scoring 14 and Thomas added 10 for Minnesota.

T.L. Latson led the Buccaneers with 23 points, McPherson had 12 and Jeff Daniels 11.

The Golden Gophers (3-1) had just returned from a second-place finish in the Big Island Invitational in Hawaii.
