HOSPITAL DEATHS-DOCTOR

COLUMBUS _ An Ohio hospital system says an intensive care doctor ordered “significantly excessive and potentially fatal” doses of pain medicine for at least 27 near-death patients in the past few years after families asked to stop lifesaving measures. The Columbus-area Mount Carmel Health System says it fired the doctor, notified authorities and removed 20 employees from patient care pending further investigation. By Kantele Franko. _ BOY’S REMAINS ID’D: The caregivers for a 4-year-old boy whose remains were found in a garbage bag by a landscaper in the backyard of a vacant Cleveland home have been charged with murder.

_ EX-PRINCIPAL-SEX CHARGES: A former Ohio principal of the year convicted on charges of having sex with two female high school students has been sentenced in Chillicothe to two years in prison.

_ HORSES RELEASED: Police say a man broke into the Stark County Fairgrounds in Ohio and released more than a dozen racehorses, including one that later died after falling through ice.

_ GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN-OHIO: The county that includes Ohio’s capital city will give furloughed federal employees tax help.

_ UNIVERSITY-FACULTY STRIKE VOTE: The union representing Wright State University faculty members in Fairborn has voted to authorize a strike.

_ BODY FOUND-GARBAGE CAN: A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and dumping her body in a garbage can at an abandoned house in suburban Cleveland has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and other charges.
