April 8, 2019

A Zebulon man was charged Friday with attempted murder after authorities said he assaulted his girlfriend.

Authorities said Christopher Ryan Griggs, 34, of 2328 Lizard Lick Road, became angry with his girlfriend on Thursday when she began receiving text messages from a friend.

Griggs tried to shoot her in the face with a rifle and drown her in a bathtub, according to an arrest warrant. She needed medical attention, authorities said.

Griggs later threatened to kill any law enforcement officers that came to their residence and barricaded himself inside for a while, authorities said.

Griggs was charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, interfering with the 911 system and resisting a public officer.

He was being held without bond in the Wake County jail.
