Lisa Leslie Wins Flo Hyman Award
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Lisa Leslie, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the top players in the WNBA, won the Flo Hyman Memorial Award from the Women’s Sports Foundation.
Leslie is one of 21 woman honored for their achievements in sports. She won gold medals with the U.S. national team in the 1996 and 2000 games, and was USA Basketball’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1993 and 1998.
She was to receive the award Wednesday.
Hyman was the captain of the gold-medal-winning 1984 U.S. Olympic volleyball team. She died of Marfan Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder, while playing in Japan in 1986.
As a member of the Los Angeles Sparks, Leslie was the MVP of the 1999 WNBA All-Star game.
