Evansville knocks off Jefferson
Paige Banks scored 11 first-half points and carried the Evansville girls basketball team to a 37-30 victory over Jefferson on Tuesday night in Rock Valley Conference action at Jefferson High School.
Olivia Ganser scored six of the Eagles’ 16 points in the first half as the 1-3-1 zone of the Blue Devils proved difficult to solve.
Both Banks and Ganser finished with game with 15 points.
The Blue Devils, tore through the RVC in December winning four straight conference games and five straight overall.
Evansville (8-7, 7-4) have now won seven of its past nine games.
The Eagles (6-8, 4-7 RVC) could not get their offense going consistently, settling for six points in the first 11 minutes of the game and then six points in the first 13 minutes of the second half.
Halle Peterson added eight points for Jefferson, while Josie Peterson pitched in five points. Just four players scored for the Eagles in the contest.
Evansville relied on a bunch of different girls behind Banks. Abby Eftemoff added six points, and seven other players each scored for the Blue Devils, who currently sit in third place in the conference standings.
Jefferson travels to Brodhead on Friday for a 7:15 p.m. tip as it continues Rock Valley Conference play.
