Finally, Progress on Handheld Device Ban

The Lowell SunMay 17, 2019

Previously wary state representatives overcame whatever reservations they had by overwhelmingly approving a bill on a 155-2 vote that bans motorists from using handheld cellphones and electronic devices behind the wheel.

Massachusetts in 2010 banned all texting and emailing while driving, but stopped short of a full ban on handheld phone calls for motorists 18 and older. As a result, many drivers exploited the difficulty in discerning texting from legal cellphone activity by continuing to text while driving or read emails, or even surf the internet, exposing everyone to unnecessary injury or death.
