One Killed In Landslide on Italian Island
ISCHIA, Italy (AP) _ A mass of rock and cement crashed onto a restaurant on this island in the Gulf of Naples on Monday, killing one man and injuring two others, authorities reported.
They said a landslide caused parts of a 300-foot containment wall to crash down on the two-story Moana Club in Casamicciola Terme, a bathing resort and spa on this island 25 miles west of Naples.
Police said about 30 customers were in the club when the landslide occurred, destroying the pool and kitchen.
A mason working at the club, identified as Silvio Della Monica, was found dead in the rubble. The manager, Gaetano Verde, 36, and an employee were hospitalized but listed out of danger.
Police said the landslide may have been caused by recent heavy rains.
