One person killed in fire in Wayne County
FORT GAY, W.Va. - One person was killed in a house fire in the Fort Gay area of Wayne County on Friday, according to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Deputy Fire Marshal Jason Baltic said he could not release any other details because of the ongoing investigation.
Fort Gay Mayor Joetta Hatfield said she received a 911 alert about the fire around 1:40 p.m., but did not have any other details.
Hatfield did say the fire occurred near Tolsia High School on Lost Creek Road.
West Virginia State Police are also investigating the fire and said a neighbor reported the fire around 1:30 p.m. Friday after seeing smoke coming from the home.
When firefighters from the Fort Gay Volunteer Fire Department arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews were still on the scene as of 9:30 p.m. Friday.
