Howe Springs Fire Rescue holds blood drive
FLORENCE, S.C. — Howe Springs Fire Rescue played host Saturday to a Red Cross blood drive, something the department has done for 16 years.
For the last three years the department has done a Memorial Day blood drive as one of its two or three annual blood drives.
Howe Springs Fire Chief William Dillon said the tables had been full since the doors to the department’s training room on Howe Springs Road opened at 10 a.m.
“If we keep this pace we’ll hit the goal,” Dillon said — 16 units.
The need is great, especially for types AB and O negative, the chief said.
“Anything collected over the weekend already has a name attached to it,” Dillon said.
Firefighter Drew Poston was one of the agency’s firefighters who turned out Saturday to donate.
“It goes to a good cause, especially with some personal cases that hit close to home where blood donations were a lifesaver,” Poston said as he worked on a caned juice drink while he donated. “Maybe pay it forward.”
