Lynx drop fourth in a row in loss to Sparks
The Lynx suffered their fourth successive loss, 77-69, to the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday at the Staples Center.
Maya Moore scored 18 points and Sylvia Fowles added 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists but the Lynx (2-5) committed 18 turnovers that the Sparks (4-1) exploited to score 26 points. Alexis Jones scored a 10 points in 28 minutes, both season highs.
After trailing at halftime, 40-38, the Lynx used Seimone Augustus jumper and Moores 3-point shot to move ahead, 43-42, with 1:52 gone in the third quarter. But an 8-0 surge gave the Sparks a 50-43 lead with 5:19 left in the period.
The Lynx took a 6-4 lead but six of their next 10 shots, as Los Angeles built a 20-12 advantage with 51.7 seconds left in the first quarter. Fowles spent the final 6:05 of that period on the bench after getting her second personal foul.
Fowles made four free throws within 35 seconds to put the Lynx ahead, 29-28, with 5:13 left in the second quarter. But the Sparks used a 6-0 burst to turn a 33-32 deficit into a 38-33 lead with 1:01 before halftime. Moores three-point shot with eight-tenths of a second remaining narrowed the visitors deficit to two points.
