LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Police in Lakewood say they tried to negotiate with a man barricaded inside an apartment unit for more than 12 hours before the man apparently killed himself.

KUSA-TV reports no one else was injured in the incident that ended Sunday.

Police spokesman Ty Countryman says officers were called Saturday to the Ashford Belmar Apartments on reports of a domestic violence incident involving a weapon.

Countryman says a woman had left the apartment and a man had barricaded himself inside the apartment. Neighboring apartments were evacuated.

Police contacted the man for several hours before he stopped responding. Countryman says a Jefferson County Sheriff's bomb squad robot entered the apartment and found the man dead of an apparent self-inflicted injury.

No further details were immediately available.
