Former Texas nonprofit director indicted for alleged theft

October 20, 2017

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — The former director of a Texas nonprofit that provides support services to abused children has been indicted on allegations she spent thousands of the agency’s funds at casinos.

The Beaumont Enterprise reports that an Orange County grand jury indicted Elena Nicole Jones last week on a felony theft charge.

She’s accused of taking between $2,500 and $30,000 from Court Appointed Special Advocates of Orange County, Inc.

The organization’s board filed a police report in January alleging someone had been using the group’s credit card without permission.

Orange Police Department Detective C.J. Foreman says Jones used the money for personal spending.

Jones was previously the executive director of the organization’s Sabine Neches Region. She was removed from the position in January.

Foreman says Jones hasn’t yet been arrested.
