North Carolina man sentenced to prison for child abuse
BURGAW, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man has been sentenced to at least 37 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he abused two children.
District Attorney Ben David tells news outlets that 43-year-old Shawn Edward Johnson was convicted this week of statutory sex offense and statutory rape. David’s office said Johnson abused his first female victim over three years beginning at age 12, and abused the second female over three months when she was 13.
A news release says Johnson knew his victims before the abuse began and called 911 himself to report the crimes when the girls and their families confronted him.
David said that when he is released, Johnson will be placed on post-release supervision for 60 months and must register as a sex offender for 30 years.
