Creek Don’t Rise playing Huntington Blues Society jam at 7 tonight at the V Club

HUNTINGTON - Formed up at a Huntington Blues Society jam, back in 2014, one of the Tri-State’s hardest working roots rocking bands, Creek Don’t Rise returns to play the Blues Society jam.Creek Don’t Rise (Marcus Oglesby, Jerry Lee Brooks, Rebecca Harrison and Hogan Bentle) will be featured at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the V Club, 741 6th Ave., Huntington.Cover is $1.Creek Don’t Rise, the blues-rocking genre-blurring band stamped with an old soul and a mind to travel, has been making a name for itself for the past four years, and with a new recording - “Sometimes It Rains” plans to spread the gospel of its soulful blues rock even further.That record produced by Eddie Ashworth in Athens, Ohio, features such original songs as “Creek Don’t Rise,” “White Coat Man” and “You Won’t Let Me Love You” from Creek Don’t Rise, who were winners of last year’s Huntington Blues Society band contest.After the Creek Don’t Rise showcase set at the monthly Blues Society Jam, stick around for the always-fun Huntington Blues Society, open stage jam session. Bring your instrument and join in a swirling impromptu jam of blues and rock from 8 to 10 p.m. The V Club is also hosting its Thirsty Ear Open Mic session tonight as well.This is a busy week for the Blues Society. On Sunday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. at the V Club, the Huntington Blues Society will host the fourth annual Huntington Blues Challenge. Each band who enters will pay an entrance fee of $20 and will get 20 minutes to play their best blues tunes. There are already eight bands signed up to compete. No more entries are being taken.The winner will receive $500 in prizes and sponsorship to the very important 2019 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. The winner will also be given $500 in travel expenses as they represent our area in the biggest and most important blues competition in the world. The 35th annual International Blues Challenge is hosted by The Blues Foundation and will take place on June 22-26, 2019.
