CS Northridge 42, Idaho St. 40

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) _ Aaron Flowers threw for two touchdowns and Norman Clarke ran for two more as Cal-State Northridge exploded in the second quarter to beat Idaho State, 42-40, on Saturday.

ISU (3-6 overall, 1-5 in the Big Sky Conference) took an early lead in the second when James Ferrell kicked a 40-yard field goal. But Northridge (6-4, 3-3) countered just 15 seconds later with a 90-yard pass from Flowers to David Romines, cutting ISU’s lead 10-7.

And the Matadors never let up. Steve Standifer recovered the ball after Shane Griggs fumbled on ISU’s 5 to bring the score to 14-10.

Clarke then ran for two short-yard touchdowns and Ferrell nailed a 51-yard field goal.

Jerome Henry scored the fifth touchdown for the Matadors in the second quarter on a 66-yard pass from Flowers. ISU’s Griggs then hit Elliot Giles with a 32-yard pass to cut the lead 35-26 at intermission.

Bengal Craig Joseph plunged into the end zone with 1:06 left in the third, but CSN’s Jeramie Thomas came back in the fourth to run 38 yards for a touchdown.

Griggs responded with an 11-yard run for another ISU touchdown. But Ferrell’s 57-yard field goal with :28 left came up short.
