Rep. Higgins is Tireless Worker for Our City

October 8, 2018

I want to express my support for Natalie Higgins in her bid for re-election as our state representative.

Natalie is a caring, intelligent young woman with boundless energy. She is well versed in the issues that impact our city as well as our state. Ms. Higgins will continue to advocate for education by seeking additional funding and changes to our Chapter 70 formula. She is also concerned with the high cost of post-secondary education.

She is also deeply concerned with health issues that include opioid addiction, mental health, and the ever-increasing cost and potential closing of services in our area.

Natalie is a tireless worker as evidenced by her presence at the many functions our city has. She has an office at the Gallagher Building, a satellite office at Leominster High School and holds hours at the library for our residents. Ms. Higgins grew up in Leominster, graduated from Leominster High School, and was the first member of her family to attain a college degree and also has a law degree.

Please join me in supporting her for reelection on November 6th.

Berlin DTC backs Chalifoux-Zephir

The Berlin Democratic Town Committee is pleased to announce our endorsement of Sue Chalifoux-Zephir as our next State Senator representing the Middlesex Worcester District.

Since 2016, when Senator Jen Flanagan helped us organize our committee, we have actively supported government leaders who speak for all of us in Central Massachusetts. You have shown that you are one of these leaders.

Your work in your home community of Leominster is a great foundation for your future as our senator. For our children’s education, you have been a board member for the Leominster Education Foundation, an independent, nonprofit dedicated to providing financial support for individual education projects and programs within the Leominster Public Schools that are beyond the traditional scope of public funding.

For community service, your direction of Ginny’s Helping Hands is a benchmark for citizens wanting to help their neighbors. Over the years, Ginny’s has helped countless families in our district make strides toward a healthy and caring home environment which strengthens our sense of community.

And for public service, your tireless dedication to local government through your service as a City Councilor at Large in Leominster gives you a terrific platform to launch your work for us at the State House.

We support you with your exceptional background and with your dedication to family and neighbors in your community.

Democrat supports Tran for the ‘common good’

I am writing in support of Senator Dean Tran’s candidacy for reelection to the Massachusetts State Senate.

I have known Dean for a number of years, first as member of Fitchburg City Council and more recently as a member of the Board of Trustees with me at Mount Wachusett Community College.

Dean has impressed me as sincere and someone who is willing to listen to different viewpoints. Since his election, Dean has shown himself to be well versed on the needs of the district and its many cities and towns.

During his brief time in office, Senator Tran has secured funding for the Berlin Fire Department, a new police station in Leominster, and renovation of Pulaski park in Gardner.

In addition, Senator Tran has secured higher levels of funding for our public schools, and gave his maiden speech in the Senate advocating for more equitable funding for our public schools. Education for our children is clearly a priority for Senator Tran. As the former Senate chair of the Education Committee, I would not endorse someone who did not support funding for public education.

I have been told by several of my former colleagues who still serve in the Senate that Dean is well liked and willing to work with members of both parties.

Let me be very clear. As a Democrat, I’ve never endorsed a Republican in my years as a public figure. But I think that Senator Dean Tran has demonstrated a real effort on behalf of North Central Massachusetts, and I believe that he deserves a full term in the state Senate to show his ability to represent the area. We need good people willing to serve the common good, and not just the interests of Republicans or Democrats. I think that Senator Dean Tran is that person we need right now, and I strongly endorse his reelection.
