Sewage problem shuts down roadways in Ansonia
ANSONIA — A sewage problem on Wakelee Avenue on Friday morning forced police to shut down some roadways during the day, and announced additional closures for Saturday.
The problem was on Wakeless Avenue in the area of Mary Street, police said around 8 a.m. Initially, the northbound lane of Wakelee Avenue at Mary Street and Mary Street were closed to all traffic.
Mary Street remains closed to through traffic until further notice. Only residents of Mary Street are allowed access.
Wakelee Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Division Street to Jackson Street, starting at 6 a.m. Saturday. The closure will be in effect until further notice.
Homes and businesses south of Mary Street, address numbers 20 through 167, can be accessed from Division Street and Hall Street. Homes and businesses north of Mary Streets, address numbers 171 through 199, can be accessed from Burton Street, Church Street and Jackson Street.
Road closure signs will be posted on Wakelee Avenue at Division Street and Jackson Street. Officers will be stationed at those locations as well, police said.
“Thank you for patience, work is being done as quickly as possible to rectify the problem,” police said.
