Lunar New Year culminates with traditional Lion Dance
The ongoing celebration of the Lunar New Year culminated Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10, with traditional Lion Dances at Katy Asiantown.
Presented by AsUnited Marketing Alliance, the events took place at 23119 Colonial Parkway. Hundreds of people turned out to watch the colorful action as the lions danced in advance of the coming year.
A lion dance is a traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries. Performers mimic a lion’s movements in a costume to bring good luck and fortune. It is usually performed during the Chinese New Year and other Chinese traditional, cultural and religious festivals. It is also sometimes performed at occasions such as business openings, special celebrations or wedding ceremonies. It may be used to honor special guests by Chinese communities.
