France Beats Germany in Soccer
GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) _ France defeated World Cup runner-up Germany 3-0 in an exhibition game Saturday, getting two goals from David Trezeguet and another from Thierry Henry.
This was Germany’s eighth straight defeat against a top soccer nation. The run began with a defeat in France in February 2001, followed by losses to England, Argentina, Brazil, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy.
France last lost to Germany 16 years ago and has a 10-8-4 record against the three-time World Cup champion.
After failing to win a game or score a goal as defending champion at last year’s World Cup, France has won 17 of its 19 games since, losing only once.
The game featured the last two European champions _ France won in 2000, Germany in 1996 _ and was part of both teams’ preparation for Euro 2004 in Portugal.
