Man Charged With Fatally Shooting Boy Who Vandalized His Home
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ A man fired into a group of youths, killing a 15-year-old boy, after they had used a slingshot to break a window of his house authorities said.
Adrian Crump, 36, was ordered held without bond on a first-degree murder charge.
Crump fired at Daniel Wesley Adams and three friends as they fled in a car after breaking the window early Saturday, police said.
″He said he didn’t know if they were armed,″ said police spokesman Asa Higgs. ″He should have called police. That’s what we have 911 for.″
Adams, a high school freshman, died at the scene. The other boys, two 15- year-olds and a 13-year-old, were not hurt.
″Everything I’ve seen about this indicates to me that this is clearly an unnecessary use of deadly force,″ State Attorney Harry Shorstein said.
His office said Monday it had not decided whether to charge the other boys in the vandalism.
