Weitzel Leads Cougars To Win In NCAA Debut

The Misericordia women’s lacrosse team beat Endicott, 12-10, on Saturday in its first ever NCAA tournament game at York College. The Cougars will face the host school in the second round at 1 p.m. today. The win was the team’s 12th straight and 15th overall, both program records. The Cougars trailed 7-6 at halftime, but opened up the second half with three straight goals. After Endicott got one back, Misericordia ran off another string of three straight goals. Lauren Weitzel scored four goals for the Cougars, and MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year Maggie McGovern made 11 saves and picked up six ground balls. Amy Roth, Shae O’Leary and Lexee Willey each added two goals in the win. Men’s Tennis Wilkes’ season ended with a 5-0 loss to Amherst College on Saturday in Massachusetts in the second round of the NCAA Divison III tournament. The host school won all three doubles flights. The Colonels’ Courtney Murphy led his match after one set, but play was halted when the Mammoths clinched. Wilkes finishes the season at 15-7.
