The Carolina Hurricanes lost to Tampa Bay 4-2 Wednesday night in their first game since captain Ron Francis was traded. Francis was traded to Toronto on Tuesday. No Carolina player wore the ``C'' on his jersey, and general manager Jim Rutherford said the title probably won't be awarded for the rest of the season.

MILESTONE

Luc Robitaille reached the 20-goal mark for the 16th time Wednesday night in Los Angeles' 3-1 win over Phoenix. Robitaille, fifth in goals among active players with 651, scored his 540th with Los Angeles to move within 10 of Marcel Dionne's franchise record.

``Steve, I just want to apologize for what happened out there. I had no intention of hurting you. I feel awful for what transpired.'' _ Vancouver's Todd Bertuzzi, reading a statement Wednesday night to apologize for punching Colorado's Steve Moore. Bertuzzi slugged Moore in the side of the head late in Monday night's 9-2 Colorado victory. He hit Moore from behind and drove his head into the ice. Moore is out for the season with a broken neck. He also sustained a concussion and deep cuts on his face, and remains hospitalized in Vancouver.
