The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning extending until 1:30 a.m. Thursday for southern Fayette County, including Uniontown.

The service estimated storms passing through the region dumped up to 2 inches of rain over the area by 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, and up to 1 inch of additional rain was expected.

Other Fayette locations that could experience flooding include Masontown, Farmington, Fairchance, Smithfield, New Salem, Markleysburg, Chalkhill and Ohiopyle.

The service encourages motorists who encounter water covering a roadway to turn around, noting most flooding fatalities occur in vehicles.
