Werner Within 7 Points of 1,000-point Plateau

WORCESTER -- Groton-Dunstable graduate Lindsay Werner scored 25 points to lead the Merrimack College women’s basketball team past Assumption, 76-63, on Wednesday night.

Werner, a 5-foot-6 senior guard, had a terrific all-around game. She added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. She now needs only seven points to become the 21st player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.

She’ll attempt to reach the milestone Saturday against Saint Anselm.

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team defeated UMass Lowell, 54-46, in an America East game on Wednesday.

Kari Brekke was the high scorer for the Wildcats with 16 points. UNH outscored the River Hawks, 17-8, in the fourth quarter.

Brianna Rudolph paced UMass Lowell’s offense with 15 points.

The River Hawks are 6-17 overall and 2-8 in AE.

UNH is 5-18 and 2-8.
