Gardner: Friday will be soggy, cool before a beautiful weekend
Scattered showers will fall throughout central North Carolina on Thursday before a system from the Gulf of Mexico brings more rain on Friday.
The rain will pick up Thursday afternoon, particularly along the Interstate 85 corridor, until it moves southeast. Southern counties will stay mostly dry until the evening.
The evening commute will likely be calmer than the morning commute in the Triangle, Gardner said.
Temperatures will be mild throughout the day. The Triangle had temperatures in the mid-40s Thursday morning, and they’re expected to rise to the mid-50s.
A plume of moisture originating in the Gulf of Mexico will bring a surge of rain into the state Friday morning and stay throughout the day. Temperatures again will be in the 50s.
A soggy Friday will transition into a beautiful weekend. Saturday will see some rain but will be mostly dry. Highs over the weekend will be in the mid- to high-60s
Sunday will be close to perfect, with a high of 68 degrees and plenty of sunshine.
